The 2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Supersport model year, enthusiasts of the middleweight Ninja are hoping for a new generation which would blow the competitors’ minds – such as Ducati with its Pikes Peak and Honda with its CBR – away, will be disappointed. Kawasaki announced that the 2012 ZX6-R will only get upgraded colors and graphics. Perhaps we should not hope too much, don’t you think?

2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R
We still can’t figure it out why in the world Kawasaki doesn’t apply major changes for the2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R to Supersport it can compete with Ducati and Honda. So, no power increase and no redesigned styling elements for the 2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Supersport 600cc. well, at least the characteristic of green color scheme is still in the picture with a different placement on the body.

You probably can’t distinguish the new color scheme and graphics at the first glance, which is why we have inserted two photos: the 2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Supersport, and the second one with the current color scheme which lasts since 2009, for the sake of comparison.

2011 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is 599 cc engine capacity

Instrumentation is lifted from the ZX-6R parts catalogue; it works well enough, but given this bike’s intended purpose, the addition of a full functioned trip computer would have been a nice touch. The mirrors are superb.
In my opinion, a bike like this without affordable factory sorted accessories is half baked. Thankfully, Kawasaki agree and offer colour coded Givi luggage specially designed for the Z1000, rounding out the package. The rear sub-frame of the Ninja 1000 was designed with luggage in mind and is much more robust than that seen on its nakedbike sibling. A $699 set of pannier brackets are required to fit the $660 panniers and the tubular brackets will prove an eyesore when the panniers are not mounted. This does reduce the amenity of the design somewhat; an integrated mounting solution that works with the machine’s styling when not mounted would have been a much smarter approach.

At $16,999 plus on road costs Kawasaki’s Ninja 1000 is not a budget sports-tourer in the vein of the capable Suzuki GSX1250FA and the like. Instead the Kawasaki straddles an affordable line between the bargain bikes and the much larger sports-tourers, like their own ZX-14.

The Ninja 1000 is another good option in the marketplace and well worth throwing a leg over at your local Kawasaki dealer if you are in the market for a sports-touring motorcycle or a semi-naked bike with an added does of real world practicality.

It's more fun that most of the bikes in this style of motorcycle, not as epically laugh out loud in your helmet entertaining as KTM's brilliant 990 SMT, but certainly a lot more larrikin than most. I reckon it’s a bit of a winner.

Ninja ZX-6R Specifications: 599 cc engine capacity
supported 16 valve with six-speed transmission, maximum speed 200 km / h with a maximum torque reached 65.68 Nm at 10,000 rpm spin

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R silky smooth high rpm performance

PRECISE ENGINE CONTROL AT ALL RPM AND POWERFUL MID-RANGE TORQUE

One of the greatest sources of excitement when riding a supersport comes from the reaction the rider gets when twisting the throttle. Engine development focused on delivering precise throttle control and increasing performance, particularly in the midrange.

Changes for improved driveability yielded very linear throttle response that gives the rider the feeling of being connected directly to the rear wheel. Stronger mid-range torque means the rider can enjoy greater drive out of corners as well as silky smooth high rpm performance.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R takes corner entry performance

CORNER-ENTRY CONTROLLABILITY

The new Ninja ZX-6R takes corner entry performance to the next level. Featuring the first production-use of Showa’s BPF (Big Piston Front fork), Kawasaki’s acclaimed triple petal disc brake package with radial calipers and radial-pump master cylinder, and a highly effective slipper clutch, the Ninja ZX-6R offers supersport riders the calm composure and precise control and feel to enter corners harder.

FLICKABLE HANDLING Ninja ZX-6R

CONFIDENT, FLICKABLE HANDLING

One of the goals for the 2009 Ninja ZX-6R was to give the new bike lighter handling. The superb combination of mid-corner stability and ability to change lines on command was maintained from the ZX600P, but frame rigidity was revised and mass further centralised to make the new Ninja ZX-6R even easier to tip into corners.

Further, the naturally aggressive ergonomics package was fine-tuned to offer riders an even better “fit” and to enhance the high level feedback that communicates to the rider what the bike is doing.

The new Ninja ZX-6R

LIGHTER WEIGHT

In addition to the more flickable handling, our engineers wanted to make the new bike as light as possible. All engine and chassis parts were re-evaluated to reduce weight. The new Ninja ZX-6R has a curb mass approximately 10 kg lighter than its predecessor.
