Honda’s maiden small car, named Jazz, will be rolled out in India by mid-2009. Honda Jazz is expected to be powered by a specially-developed 1200cc engine. Going by the current trend amongst premium hatches, the Jazz will be competing directly with the Skoda Fabia, the awaiated Fiat Grande Punto and Hyundai i20. HONDA has updated popular Jazz with the addition of a more powerful 1.5-litre with much sportier boy-appeal looks. The power and torque of the 1.5-litre has been stepped upped to 81 kW and 143 Nm which gives it a 10.9 second 0-100 km/h time that is better than the class equivalent Polo, Fiesta and Yaris - and just 0.5 seconds slower than the Corsa hatch.Honda Jazz top speed is round the 175 km/h mark.Where the 1.4 Jazz has traditionally been bought mainly by the species from Venus, small families and mature empty nesters, the new 1.5-litre will definitely appeal the new generations of India.
What will like about the new Honda is its 'planted' European look and brrrm-brrrm features such as racy 15-inch alloys shod with 185/55R15 rubber, a steeply raked windscreen, agro front headlights, all-round tinted glass, side sills and rear spoiler, big front air scoop and sporty bumper, submerged fog lamps, the high mount stop light and its cheeky "go fast" roof aerial.
Both the 1.4 and 1.5 models now offer the choice of a five-speed manual or Honda's remarkably smooth CVT (continuously variable transmission) auto shift.
