In Korea the new Sonata will launch with a 2-liter Theta II MPi gasoline engine developing 165 hp. It can also be had with a 2.4 liter Theta II GDI engine, which powers the entry level model for the US market. All models are now available with a new six-speed automatic transmission.For extra rigidity and safety, most of body panels in the new car are made of steel. Also it has six airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control including Hill-start Assist Control and Brake Assist System as standard.The price of new 2011 Hyundai Sonata when it goes on sale in US in January 2010 will be between US$17,600 to US$21,450, depending on options. So despite all the improvements inside and out, the Sonata still has its real winning card which is affordability.

The Sonata was going to need some big chops to even be considered against stalwarts like the Camry and Accord. Upon climbing in the Sonata, the first thought was that there was no way this was a sub-$30K vehicle. The Sonata’s interior easily outclasses most of the competition
